The Kokoda Track Walk

Over the Owen Stanley Ranges, Along the Kokoda Track

Graham Felton is well known to those people who follow AARF’s activities and events. He and his friend John Sinclair lead the Around Australia 75th Anniversary Ride of great pioneers, Jack Bowers and Frank Smith, who rode a Harley Davidson motorcycle and side-box around Australia in 1929. For more information about the Around Australia 75th Anniversary Ride, click here.

Graham’s 2006 adventure was the successful completion of the Kokoda Track walk. His idea was to promote the Track’s history - particularly during World War II, use the walk as an example of healthy ageing and of course, raise money for AARF.

BrochureThe Walk

The walk commenced on the 21st of August 2006 at Kokoda and finished on the 1st of September 2006 at Owen’s Corner.

Graham’s efforts were acknowledged by many people who generously contributed to AARF by pledging a dollar amount per kilometre completed or, by becoming a Gold, Silver or Bronze sponsor. All contributors to this event are acknowledged in the Donation Section of AARF’s 2006 Annual Report, which is available here.

Although this event is now finished, we have retained a downloadable version of the brochure created to promote the walk on this site. Click here or on the image to download the brochure in pdf format.

During the Second World War, campaigns fought along the Kokoda Track were highly significant in the eventual outcome of the war.

Today, the Kokoda Track remains as a memorial to the courage of those that participated, fought or paid the supreme sacrifice there.

More information about the Track and the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway can be found here.
